Western Digital's My Passport Essential WDME5000TN Hard Drive is the popular 500GB storage device that is part of the My Passport Essential series. This portable and compact hard drive is small enough to fit in your shirt pocket but packs enough power to store all your music, video and photos in one convenient location. Now you can access all your data easily whether you're on the road or in an airline.

The WDME5000TN does not need to be plugged into a power source because it gets what it needs via its USB cable. So no carrying extra cables or worrying about voltage settings in foreign countries. Besides the convenience, your data is also stored securely using 128-bit encryption.

There is practically no installation required. You plug the drive in and its recognized by your Operating System making it ready to use. No CD's to run, no software to install. At the risk of sounding cliche this device is truly 'plug and play'.

Perfect - Light, Simple to use, and MASSIVE Capacity

This portable hard drive is exactly what I wanted. It had the capacity - 500GB, felt durable, is compact and light enough to carry around. It was convenient to use on my Mac and my Dell. One convenient feature is that it didnt require any electric outlet and small enough to not make me feel like I'm adding bulk to my laptop bag.

I bought this along with the rubber skin (Premium Silicone Sleeve Case for Western Digital WD Passport Essential Elements Portable 2.5" Hard Drive). Fortunately this added no "bulk" but only protection.
